Introduction to Elvstroem’s new home - Blue Gum Farm.

For the past 25 years Blue Gum Farm has been establishing a strike rate of success that is the envy of the industry. Not a giant stud, acreage is around 800 at the foot of the Strathbogie ranges outside of Euroa. Early on broodmares were the focus later came the stallions. Established 25 years ago by Graeme and Margaret Campbell the farm has now run by their son Philip and his wife Patti. Dedicated golfers, the Campbell’s have assembled a top line team to keep the farm running smoothly all year round.

Noalcoholic was Blue Gum Farm’s foundation sire in 1985. A hit straight away he was Australian Champion First Season Sire in 1986/87. Hot on the heels of Noalcoholic followed successful sires Rancho Ruler, Umatilla, Kenvain, Rubiton, for a brief time Last Tycoon and from 1997, a well performed son of Fairy King — Encosta de Lago. That last bloke put the farm into over-drive. Concise is the adage, winners make successful sires.

A recent highlight for the farm was rearing and selling an Encosta de Lago filly for $80,000 at the 2003 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. She was Alinghi and she carries the BG brand on her off-shoulder. Just imagine what it’d be like to see another BG brand, a two-year-old by Elvstroem, flash past the post as the winner of the Blue Diamond Stakes. If racing is built on dreams then breeding must be the imagination.

The arrival of Elvstroem at Blue Gum Farm is the most eagerly anticipated event in this farm’s history. He’s over in Europe now carving out new territory but to be honest there will be a tinge of sadness when his racing career concludes. It’s unforgettable the sight of a prize fighter at the top of their game so we must savour every moment. Tony, Brian and Nash are inextricably linked to Elvstroem the Racehorse. Soon though we’ll be able to celebrate Elvstroem the Sire, and a fresh set of names will be part of his new career. So like pilgrims to the MCG all you Elvis fans will need to trek to BGF to visit the great horse and meet the new names behind Elvstroem.

He has won in handicaps and also weight for age. "Elvis" was retired to Blue Gum Farm in late August 2005 after a stellar career netting 5 Group 1's.
